TomTom

The TomTom GPS navigation device that we use for our cars came with free map updates. TomTom sent me an email reminder that the free map updates expire at the end of the month.

When I tried to update the maps on our device, the map download failed. I contacted TomTom. Numerous replies went back and forth. Each reply from TomTom included links to multi-page instructions to follow.

I spent many hours trying to update the maps for my TomTom device. After many hours, because I haven't received verification from TomTom, I don't know if the maps were updated or not.

Updating TomTom maps is about as far from "plug & play" as one can get. I can't imagine the average TomTom customer navigating (excuse the pun) successfully through the pages and pages of instructions that I've received over the last several days.

Updating maps in TomTom is VERY customer UNfriendly.

For the record, following this post, I received confirmation from TomTom that maps in my device are currently up to date. The many hours that I spent, and the many pages of instructions that I followed, were successful.

TomTom, there's got to be an easier way!

DMV

Everyone knows that when it comes to poor service that no one can beat the DMV.

No response to our May 13 letter. But then, it is the DMV.
