we have a heat pump. it has its advantages (cheaper than gas heat) and its disadvantages (heats slowly and unevenly). another disadvantage to our system is that the builder put the heat pump thermostat in a hallway. the temperature in the hallway is always two or more degrees warmer than the rest of the house. fortunately, we found a workaround. 

we put a dr. heater electric space heater (dr968, original heater) in our cold room and set the temperature on the dr. heater space heater to the same temperature as the hallway heat pump thermostat temperature. on the economy setting, the dr. heater electric space heater will eventually raise the temperature in the cold room to the heat pump thermostat setting and keep it there. for example, if I set my heat pump temperature at 70 degrees, and it's 68 degrees or less in the room that I'm occupying, then with the dr. heater space heater in the economy mode, it will raise the temperature to 70 degrees in the room that I'm occupying while it is 68 degrees or less in the rest of the (unoccupied) house. problem solved.
